Lime Tree Day Nursery Receives ‘Gold Standard’ Millie’s Mark Award
Lime Tree Day Nursery, an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ graded nursery in Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich, has received national recognition for going above and beyond the legal requirements in nursery paediatric first aid training.
Lime Tree Day Nursery has been awarded the prestigious Millie’s Mark accreditation by the National Day Nurseries Association in collaboration with the Department for Education and Millie’s Trust. The Millie’s Mark accreditation launched in 2016 and is named after Millie Thompson, who tragically died as a result of choking in a nursery in 2012. Millie’s parents Dan and Joanne Thompson have campaigned for all nursery staff to have full paediatric first aid training and having Millie’s Mark demonstrates that nurseries have met this standard. In addition, nurseries must go above and beyond to minimise risks and accidents, have extremely robust processes and documentation, and work hard to keep crucial first aid skills in the forefront of their employees’ minds.
Staff and children of Lime Tree Day Nursery have today been celebrating their outstanding achievement with the unveiling of the official Millie’s Mark certificate at a special celebration with Thorpe St Andrew Town Mayor, Councillor Sue Lawn.
Elizabeth Skinner, owner and manager of Lime Tree Day Nursery commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded Millie’s Mark. We have worked extremely hard over the past six months and are delighted that our efforts have been rewarded. To be one of only 427 childcare settings in England to have the Millie's Mark accreditation, and only the second in Norfolk, is a very special achievement and shows how serious we are about ensuring children are safe when they are in our care.”
Purnima Tanuku, Chief Executive of National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) adds: “Achieving Millie’s Mark is a great achievement for the nursery, it shows that all staff are fully trained in paediatric first aid and that they have reflected on their current practice to improve competence and confidence. Becoming a Millie’s Mark’s nursery is a clear indicator for parents that this nursery has met the highest standards and gives them the reassurance that their children are safe.”
